The food industry also extracts ingredients for several different types of food additives from seaweed.  Seaweed is used to retain water and gel food, especially confectionary products, meat and poultry items, desserts, and beverages.  Some forms of seaweed are even used in various types of salad dressings or dietetic foods.  Seaweed is even a preservative in meat and fish products, dairy products, and some types of baked goods.


Some experts believe seaweed is a necessary part of everyone’s diet.  In fact, research shows that seaweed is promising in many areas of health improvement.  For example, one study shows that seaweed bread could be a solution to the obesity epidemic.  Experts who have studied the contents of seaweed say that it is a good source of several vital minerals, including sodium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, chlorine, sulfur, and phosphorus.  Seaweed is also a great source of vitamins, including carotenes and B12.  Some varieties of seaweed also have a large amount of vitamin C in them.  Another great thing about seaweed is that it contains very little fat.  This makes it the perfect diet food.


Seaweed also has many different medicinal uses that you may not be aware of.  Some parts of seaweed are used to dress wounds and produce dental molds, and Chinese medicine has been making use of seaweed for centuries. 


The only bad thing about seaweed is that it does contain an excessive amount of iodine in it, and iodine toxicity is a possibility if you consume too much seaweed.  But overall, seaweed is really not a bad food to eat if you’re trying to get your health and weight under control.  After all, many different sea creatures benefit from this healthy food, so why shouldn’t you?
